Become a Master Text Wrangler with Regular Expressions We interact with text everyday. Emails, text messages, sales proposals, spreadsheets - it’s all just characters strung together at the end of the day. If you work with text on a daily basis, you're likely always looking for a way to make changes faster, to stop repeating tasks over.

The primary purpose of our website is to provide the user with a list of software programs that support a particular file extension, as well as that help to convert them to another format. TextWrangler supports 8 different file extensions, that's why it was found in our database. The following tables provide information about the association of TextWrangler with file extensions. If the TextWrangler program can be used to convert the file format to another one, such information will also be provided.

  1. TextWrangler helps me solve numerous challenges with text from a variety of sources. My most common use cases: 1. Clean up screen-grabbed text to put into a spreadsheet, 2. “fix” text from a PDF document for use in InDesign/Illustrator, 3. Remove duplicates from lists, 4.
  2. When Bare Bones retired BBEdit Lite in 2001, they introduced TextWrangler as a shareware 'lite' Text Editor in it's place. With the shareware fee dropped on the release of TextWrangler version 2.1.3, TextWrangler remained as a freeware 'lite' offering from Bare Bones until 2016 with the final release of TextWrangler version 5.5.2 (and still available for download at Bare Bones).
  3. Notepad Notepad is a free source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several.

Associations of TextWrangler with the file extensions

TextWrangler opens the files:

What can I use this information for?

This information is especially useful when looking for a way to open a specific file. If you already have TextWrangler installed on your computer, you can check which file extensions it supports and look for the data you need in this specific format (or to what format you should convert the data so that you can open them in the TextWrangler).

I do not have a TextWrangler yet. Where should I get it?

Wrangler

By far the most safe way is to download TextWrangler directly from the developers's website. If you are going to download the TextWrangler from a website that offers a database of downloadable software, you have to reckon with the fact that when you install it on your computer, you will also install the unwanted extras. Please, pay special attention to this.

I cannot see the file extensions. What should I do?

File extensions are not normally displayed to users. To change this, go to Control Panel, select Appearance and Personalization and Folder Options. Next, select the View and find the option 'Hide extensions for known file types'. The option should be deselected (cleared) and confirmed with OK.

TextWrangler is now BBEdit — and still free! It's time to switch.

TextWrangler was an all-purpose text and code editor for macOS, based on the same award-winning technology and user interface as BBEdit, our leading professional HTML and text editor.

Free

Like TextWrangler, BBEdit is free to download and use. There’s a set of advanced features that you can pay for — if you want to. But you’re not required to pay anything if TextWrangler has been doing the job for you.

When you start using BBEdit, there’s a 30-day period during which you can use all of BBEdit’s advanced features. When that period ends, BBEdit goes into “Free Mode”, in which it offers all of the features that TextWrangler had — and then some — at no charge.
