NOTE:If you have an FBRI-provided PC, the Cisco Anyconnect Client is already installed. Please skip toStarting the VPN Clientbelow.

Run the downloaded UMVPN-anyconnect file to install the client. Note: If the Microsoft Defender Smartscreen popup window opens, click More info and then Run Anyway. Follow the program prompts. Connect Using the VPN. Download the UCSD VPN AnyConnect client. Download the VPN AnyConnect client (UCSD login.

  • Download: Go to Locate Cisco AnyConnect (VPN Client) section at top of page. Click box next to I accept Software Terms of Use. Click the link for the Windows AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (4.4). The installer file will download. Install: Click Save, when asked: What do you want to do with anyconnect-win-4.4.03034-?
  • Installing the VPN Client. Download the Anyconnect VPN client for Windows. Note: If using Microsoft Edge, the program will download as a 'sysattachment.do' file. You will need to rename the file to 'sysattachment.msi' Click Run on the Open File – Security Warning dialog box. Click Next in the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup.

Installing the VPN Client

  1. Download the Anyconnect VPN client for Windows.
    • Note: If using Microsoft Edge, the program will download as a 'sys_attachment.do' file. You will need to rename the file to 'sys_attachment.msi'
  2. Click Run on the Open File – Security Warning dialog box.
  3. Click Next in the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup dialog box, then follow the steps to complete the installation.

Starting the VPN Client

NOTE: The VPN will not connect if you are connected to the FBRI wired or wireless network.

  1. Go to Start->Programs->Cisco->Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to launch the program.
  2. Enter vpn.vtc.vt.edu in the Ready toConnect to field, then press the Connect button.
  3. Enter your FBRI usernameand password, then click OK.
  4. A banner window will appear. Click Accept to close that window. You are now connected!

Disconnecting the VPN Client

When you are finished using the VPN, remember to disconnect (failing to disconnect can result in being unable to access resources if you are on-site at the Research Institute).

  1. Right-click the AnyConnect client icon located in the system tray near the bottom right corner of your screen.
  2. Select Quit.
